Would you have been smart to sell off BEFORE the numbers came in with B.O. estimates??
Well, sure... NOW that we know what Moneyball earned on Friday night, yes. But remember, that's the hard part, is figuring out how much a movie will earn and whether you should HOLD it, or short it.
Looking back now... the smart way to play it, would have been to SHORT Moneyball, and then when the price dropped (when everyone found out it didn't do as well as the stock price) then you would've made $$.
You can always SHORT a movie, if you don't think it will adjust to the current stock price... or you can LONG it, if you think it will adjust up... When I started playing - we couldn't hold a stock 'short'... we could only long it, or sell it before adjust if we didn't think it would do well... Now today, you can make money either way.. holding a stock long if you think it will do well.. or shorting the stock if you think it will adjust down...
It's your call, and that's one of the most fun aspects of the game... trying to figure out whether to hold an opener LONG, or SHORT it... after 11+ years here, it's still one of the most fun things to do...and still I'm only good about 50-60% of the time... it's tough!
