whenever there is a proposal to change the game, just a few questions need to be asked...
will this fix something that is broken?
- no, just a few frustrated players who dont liked being ranked with dormant ports
will this improve the game?
- no, just a few frustrated players who dont liked being ranked with dormant ports
what effect would this change have on the game?
- random rank swings... the first pass thru and most everybody would increase in rank (there are dormant ports even in the top 100 LTD ~ I have the same problem at rank #43) and then everyday after that you would gain/lose rank randomly because dormant players would start using their accounts and be added back into the rank, while other ports would become dormant... on a daily basis. You would be up 5 ranks one day and then down 10 ranks the next day, then up 6 ranks the next day and down 2 ranks the next day.
why is this feature current the way that it is?
- these dormant accounts represent players who worked just as hard and/or as long as you have to build their port. for whatever reasons, they are currently not active at HSX, but they were at one time, could return at anytime, and their accomplishment should not be discounted.
"Lifetime To Date" means exactly that... in the whole lifetime of HSX, these are how the players ranked (not just the players who have been active in the last six months).
#6 Foofiter; #28 Shay; #33 wardb; #57 EYE20/20; #58 poetic; #60 TheWall; #62 OUSooner; #63 LaChris; #68 EYEDOC2; #71 jnine13; #75 WRL; #79 shorty; #91 Bren482; #94 ABARNIV; #98 overthetop; are all currently dormant within the top 100 LTD.
I personally left playing HSX for an industry related job and was working 14-18 days + drive time each way (until a camera man from a movie I was working on died falling asleep at the wheel on his way home ~ then Hollywood voluntarily set 12 hours as a target/standard). After being injured at work, I remembered about HSX, and was suprised that my account had actually made an additional 200mill while I was away. This got me excited and I rejoined the game full time.
HSX's proposal to charge an inactivity fee to dormant ports was an idea that was hoping to get dormant players to return to the game and encourage active players not to go dormant. It was not a good idea and would have permently kept dormant players from ever returning. I am glad this idea did not move forward.
There is no reason to penalize, discount, etc dormant accounts. It does not improve the game, it does not fix something that is broken, and it does not have a positive effect on the game. It would cause confusion and even more frustration than you feel now.
Out of all the players who have ever played the game I have made the 43rd most amount of money. I know that because I am ranked 43 lifetime to date (HSX's lifetime, not mine). I passed lots of dormant accounts to get here (it was easy... I made money being active and they didnt make money being inactive). You should not have much trouble rising in the ranks, and as you rise in the ranks the amount of dormant accounts should decrease (because not as many people have played as long and/or been as successful as you).
PS ~ I believe a number of well known players have gone dormant at one time (or another)...
lhayes37 used to go dormant each year during football season
RazorHawk went dormant twice
I think Paul2K went dormant (and returned a superstar)?
I think Catzan went dormant (but has returned)
ABOND went dormant for years (but just popped up last month)
I believe fembot had another account and went dormant and instead of taking the time and effort to clean out her old account she just started a new one (which is currently ranked #1 LTD).
Screenwriter/director Josh Stolberg (Good Luck Chuck; Pirahna 3D; Soriety Row; Kids In America...) plays HSX (link-imdb)(link- player profile) but goes dormant when he is working on a movie (currently directing 'Crawlspace')
