Shorting $2 IPOs

I get the logic of shorting $2 IPOs, but I get burned on them so often. Ghost Team (GHSTM) today increased $1.77 to $3.77 despite 20 million shares shorted.  Some times there's a slow descent back to sub $2 after that, but that might not be until the movie is near release. 

What i don't get is how so many short something and the stock increases. Probably due to people who shorted yesterday covering during reset trading.  And the reset traders seem to not mind screwing over the casual traders who don't log in every day.
