May be a dumb question?

I am trying to sell some "shares held short" on a movie but keep getting this message "You don't currently own any shares of this security so you can't sell at this time." Am I missing something about why I can't sell them. Movie came out 2 weeks ago. Thanks!

If you think a stock/bond is going to go down then you short it. When you want to get rid of it, you cover. {nm} JDolphin Apr 16, 16:27
