Thoughts on this weekends openers and delist.

DIST9 - Critics have been soso, but the WOM on this has been crazy positive. Most of the people that I know that have seen it give it an A-, A, A+ a couple of B+s were tossed in. The subject matter isn't as mass-market friendly as TREK2. I'm thinking that this movie might not be as short as most people think for a kind of SF GFB type movie. If you listen to Nikki it was the zombie fans of PJACK that made this movie over perform. I'm thinking that people that might not normally catch this movie listened to  their GFB friends and decided to take a chance.

TTRWF - This should probably end up being a post adjust long. Romcoms  tend to have legs. How good  a set of legs is up to debate, JULIE was only off this weekend 38.1% in the face of a new Romcom opening. The Proposal has wracked up 147 million. Even I  liked the PROSL. Mmmm SBULL. Sorry lost my train of thought there. What were we talking about?

PONYO - I'm thinking that this is a pretty easy post adjust long.  None of Miyazaki's previous well known movies opened wide, at there widest  HOWLS (202) SPRTA (151) MONON (159) but they all showed really good legs until they started losing theaters. So it's going to be interesting to see how a wide opening film does.  I doubt it will add that many new theaters if any. If anybody knows make a post.  It's still playing to pretty much a niche audience, but that audience seems to show up to all his movies.

BSLAM - This is DOA. if they didn't find it the first weekend they won't find it the second, and this is gone as fast as theaters can contractually get it out the door. Yes this is a cheap stock but being cheap doesn't mean that  it will make it's price. Been there, seen that, done that, have the tee shirt.  There are many other stocks out there worth your attention and can make you more bucks. The nice thing  is it doesn't cost you much to move in and out of this stock if you choose.

TGDRS - Got me on this one. It's a comedy so might have a bit of legs. Other then selling cars  at a dealership I really don't know much about the movie and if JPIVE wasn't  in it I wouldn't  even have cared enough to know that. Nice thing is that it's cheap so getting in and out is rather painless.

Note: This is delist I'm not talking about what the stocks might do between now and then. You have 3 weeks to play with these things have at it.

Your mileage may vary.

TTWRF isn't a romantic comedy... nice try though. {nm} secretstalker Aug 16, 23:24

Snark is nice. You should try for some of that thought you where mentioning and try make a constructive post for once. {nm} Vashta Nerada Aug 16, 23:27

Wow, three "comebacks" to me merely point out a simple fact... secretstalker Aug 17, 04:23

And you could have said that in your first post. "Nice try though" doesn't leave much room for dialog. {nm} H-Mogul Aug 17, 08:07

We might actually get people talking on this board. There isn't really much dialog you can work into snark. Try one of those opinions you Vashta Nerada Aug 16, 23:28

Maybe it's just a romance movie. Those tend to have legs too as the people that see them tend not to run out the first weekend. Word of Vashta Nerada Aug 16, 23:33

TTWRF had a 2.4 internal mult compared to the 3 point something that JULIE had... secretstalker Aug 17, 04:20

And #3 -- did you actually *SEE* the reviews? something like 34% on RT, 2nd worst to TGRDS. secretstalker Aug 17, 04:27

why so high and mighty ? chill {nm} JMT Aug 17, 00:13

this message was directed at secretstalker ( appreciate your effort, vashta mogul ) {nm} JMT Aug 17, 00:21

I think there are too many chick flicks out there, I know they tend to hold up well post adjust but I am not banking on TTRWF to follow suit {nm} leo21 Aug 17, 03:17

My female take-TTWRF has a creepy factor, duly noted in the reviews, and Bana is bland. Post adj short. {nm} maltrinity Aug 17, 04:59

Bana has always been bland. {nm} SocioEvo Aug 17, 05:58

PJACK definitely helped DIST9 but he wasn't the deciding factor for most I'd bet. And critics we not so-so {nm} MiyazakiFan Aug 17, 06:30

Agreed on the critics. 88% RT and especially 81 at Metacritic are a long way from so-so. {nm} shadowking Aug 17, 07:11

Didn't know it ws at 88%. The few I looked at seemed to pooh pooh the movie. I'm hoping to get to see this next weekend. It's been awhile H-Mogul Aug 17, 08:24
