'Thing' prequel trailer?

It has just recently been announced that Universal won't be bringing the 'Thing' prequel to Comic Con this year.  I've been told that Comic Con is where they were planning to release the first footage from the film.

If not at Comic Con, when will Universal start marketing this film?  Is this movie even on track for its October release?
