What distinguishes Warrior from a 'rasslin movie? Looks like an aim at a devoted, lowbrow audience. The early fanboy reviews do not dispel

this point.  One reviewer claims it is better than Raging Bull and better than Rocky.  I suppose that is possible, but it seems far more likely to indicate that the fringe of society that fancies mixed martial arts is seeing this film in the manner a Justin Bieber fan views a Bieber film, or Ayn Rand fans view an Atlas Shrugged film.

Perhaps Warrior will succeed at the box office and as art and/or entertainment.  But so far this film's trajectory reminds me of a WWE product with a couple of mid-level names and a television-heavy director.  It is likely to be extremely well received among a small slice of the population, and ignored or discounted by most people.

It has two things going for it, though.  Much of it was filmed in Pittsburgh and one of the writers is named Dorfman.

never can I remember a year where the three best mainstream films of that given year came out in August/September. WARIR is phenomenal! lobogotti Sep 05, 06:49

What is the third, great mainstream movie, then.. ? {nm} Facto Sep 05, 06:57

well Moneyball isn't in the converstaion yet.... lobogotti Sep 05, 07:02

How do you define "mainstream?" Maybe then we can go from there. Were MIDNP or WELPH mainstream? {nm} Buy StarBondFund Sep 05, 07:34

1000+ screens I suppose. if I could walk up on the street and ask someone if they had heard of the film. Midnight in Paris was great lobogotti Sep 05, 09:45

I think there are a bunch that still aren't in the conversation yet... Ruthian23 Sep 05, 07:48

oh yes, there are sure to be great films yet to come. but those are some solid pics for being thrown into August/September {nm} lobogotti Sep 05, 09:42

in my original post, I should have stated "thus far". the next 4 months are sure to turn up some great efforts. {nm} lobogotti Sep 05, 09:48

You haven't seen 50/50 yet... or Drive... {nm} TheWeekendWarrior Sep 05, 07:40

I have never seen an MMA fight all the way through. I have no desire to ever see one, this film is not a rasslin movie. That said it will lobogotti Sep 05, 10:04

Maybe it is great art. Maybe it is excellent entertainment. Maybe it is going to win awards. I see no reason to expect any of the three.{nm} DTXbro Sep 05, 10:55

:) give the film a try next weekend and then report back to Delta House {nm} lobogotti Sep 05, 13:30

It takes a hell of a film to pry me from the Delta House festivities. The Help, maybe. Warrior? The only chance I will see it involves my DTXbro Sep 05, 14:55

Not even remotely... it's more about the drama that makes the MMA scenes even more exciting {nm} TheWeekendWarrior Sep 05, 14:15

"What distinguishes Warrior from a 'rasslin movie?" Why would anyone make that comparison? {nm} Serenity Sep 06, 13:40
