No, we don't need more companies like them. Insidious = garbage, Drive = garbage. Their output has stunk.

And their marketing is misleading, especially with Drive. I imagine them sitting in their offices thinking up ways to make a film look completely like something it is not. They succeeded with Drive, at least for one weekend. Congrats, they've effectively taken money right out of people's pockets, many of which wouldn't have seen the movie if they weren't blatantly lied to.

Going by Twitter/Facebook, Harry Warden is in the minority re: Drive... people who actually like movies, LOVE Drive. {nm} TheWeekendWarrior Sep 18, 08:13

Yeah, because *everyone* uses Twitter. CinemaScore, a reputable firm, says otherwise. {nm} HarryWarden Sep 18, 08:22

From what I've gathered here, doesn't Cinemascore basically gauge what the people who went to the movie thought? As you said the other day.. Ruthian23 Sep 18, 08:26

No doubt, it's going to be a love/hate response. But that could have the potential to draw interest in a very dangerous way. I mean... SakowskyBrothers Sep 18, 12:40

Saw it with my sister and her bf, they hated it. They had no idea what it was It sucks that they were misled by marketing. {nm} islander Sep 18, 08:28

Can't blame them though. Would be interesting to see what kind of box office the film would have received had it been marketed honestly {nm} HarryWarden Sep 18, 08:30

It if had been marketed honestly it would have been in 4 theaters in ny and la {nm} islander Sep 18, 08:31

Ding ding ding! {nm} TheWeekendWarrior Sep 18, 08:43

That's more than it deserves. {nm} HarryWarden Sep 18, 08:56

Personally, I'm torn on the film. But I do know I'd never recommend it to anyone I know {nm} islander Sep 18, 09:09

marketed honestly? C'mon....marketing's job is to put butts in the seats. Its opening is a huge success {nm} Moviesnob Sep 18, 09:57

there is always a risk of backlash when you fool the public. if sentiment turns bad, could gosling and refn suffer? {nm} islander Sep 18, 10:07

there wont be a lot of backlash in the Film District office tomorrow. Did Clooney get backlash over The American? {nm} Moviesnob Sep 18, 10:09

i guess i shouldnt expect anyone in hollywood to be ashamed of stealing money by misleading hardworking americans {nm} islander Sep 18, 10:12

stealing? Dude, I think you are over reacting - and please understand i say that with the utmost respect for you {nm} Moviesnob Sep 18, 10:14

of course you know im being facetious. i am tho just a bit amused how anti-commercial the film is compared to the marketing. {nm} islander Sep 18, 10:17

but thats their job. Film District isnt going to have big films. They will be taking out smaller films the big studios dont want and will Moviesnob Sep 18, 10:19

without Film District, a movie like Drive would never get made or fall to companies like mine that essentially are in the DTV world {nm} Moviesnob Sep 18, 10:21

you're right, great points. and me having railed against H'wood for not making quality actioners, i need to be supportive. just frustrated i islander Sep 18, 10:31
