So Who Saw What Last Week? (me - Incendies: C+, The Last Circus: C-)

mentioned this last week on the life board, but keeping track of these grades with no purpose seems pointless. so on the life board on tuesdays, the day movies come out on video, i will post the grades they got. that way if you are looking for a new movie and wonder what we thought of it, you can look there. so that will be tomorrow.

Incendies: which is apprarently French for ewwwwww. Or perhaps, 'overrated'. But this film was close to working for me, just not as compelling as I'd hoped. Perhaps better acting from the twins, or more dramatic punch early (film got better as it went). So that and a Jerry Springer-esque twist ending led me to being underwhelmed.

The Last Circus: the oddest film ive seen all year. Very good costumes, makeup, cinematography, but this tale of a clown involved in a love triangle set against the political upheaval of Spain in the mid 20th century is quite unsettling (and at times, near impossible) to watch. It revels in grotesquery, going for the sick and twisted at every turn. Now the opening sequence involving a clown being recruited in a war, given a machete and told to slash his way through the enemy. was fascinating, and if that and his arrest, and sons revenge had been the movie, i would have liked that better

rewatch: master and commander far side of the world: a+
