Movies

Fair point. I don't know, though. It seems like the information that it's silent is out there everywhere you look. Even a bunch of friends

of mine who don't follow movies nearly as closely as I do know "that's the silent one, right?" I generally think that if you go to a movie and the theater delivers the movie as promised (no sound/visual issues, movie in its entirety, etc) it's bad form to ask for a refund if you didn't like it. If you're going to go into movies completely cold, that's fine, but you should expect surprises, whether they're pleasant or unpleasant. If you're the kind of person who is going to ask for a refund if you don't like a movie, I think you should probably do more research on movies before you see them to make sure you're giving yourself the best chance of going to movies you like.

Moviegoers asking for refund after seeing The Artist - Link HarryWarden Jan 17, 21:41

Beyond ridiculous that anyone would expect a refund because there is no dialogue in a silent film. {nm} Ruthian23 Jan 17, 21:47

Obviously, people don't know it is one going in since it's not clear based on the ads; most people don't research movies before seeing them {nm} HarryWarden Jan 17, 21:50

I heard that this winning BP would be bad for Hollywood's reputation among the people who actually attend its movies and make it money {nm} HarryWarden Jan 17, 21:53

Since when has the Academy actually cared about its "reputation"? accountant_4_Jesus Jan 17, 22:00

At least The Hurt Locker wasn't a silent movie about movies. Plenty of people like war films. {nm} HarryWarden Jan 17, 22:03

Hurt Locker is actually the choice for reputation. Avatar is populous choice. {nm} Antibody Jan 17, 23:09

I don't think that's the movie or the theater's problem, though. If you're not even going to do the absolute bare minimum of research about Ruthian23 Jan 17, 22:43

When was the last silent film released? 1935. It's reasonable to expect a film to have dialogue today. {nm} Antibody Jan 17, 23:04

1976 {nm} GalacticPothealer Jan 17, 23:59

lol {nm} JMT-NL Jan 18, 00:02

1976 - well there was one word spoken in it {nm} JMT-NL Jan 17, 23:59

By Marcel Marceau, wasn't it? {nm} Was Bar Was Jan 18, 06:58

yes. we Learn And Earn :-) {nm} JMT-NL Jan 18, 08:50

The dialogue in 1 Million Years B.C. wasn't that sophisticated. {nm} Unifex Jan 18, 04:09

Aren't some of Guy Madden's films silent films? {nm} second gary Jan 18, 06:58

It's one of the absolute worst trailers of recent memory, generating zero interest in the film. it's the main reason I haven't seen it yet. goodvibe61 Jan 18, 08:23

Will your opinion change if Tim Tebow says he likes it? {nm} MiyazakiFan Jan 18, 06:52

Or if Piranha 3DD is a silent film? :) {nm} TheWeekendWarrior Jan 18, 07:36

I even have a tag line: "In a silent movie full of man-eating piranhas, no one can hear you scream" {nm} TheWeekendWarrior Jan 18, 07:36

I'm interested in seeing it. Since you've already seen it, could you elaborate on what was so pretentious about it? {nm} stevie1der328 Jan 18, 07:36

same thing happend with Drive. in fact, I think someone is suing or did sue because of it. {nm} lobogotti Jan 18, 08:15

I don't think The Artist is pretending that there's sound, though. Drive's ads pretended that it was the opposite of what it really was and Ruthian23 Jan 18, 08:54

I agree completely. Asking for refunds or suing is just plain asinine. {nm} lobogotti Jan 18, 10:22

The Artist, pretentious? Yes, it is silent. Yes, it is B/W... but it is totally a crowd-pleaser! Adriii Jan 18, 08:17

That's just awesome {nm} BionicMoron Jan 18, 09:55
