All that says to me is teenage girls will see boy movies, while teenage boys won't be caught dead at a girl movie.

What's your point here? That mass-market entertainment is shallow and Hollywood produces films that pander to their audience? Because, duh!

Or that women are more superficial than men? Because saying "a bigger % of women saw The Vow than the % of men who saw Transformers 3" is not a good comparison. For a start, there's what I wrote in the header. And males who saw TFRM3 on opening weekend outnumbered the everyone that saw The Vow on OW, including any men unlucky enough to be dragged along to it. And The Vow, with a small $30M budget, has the luxury of being able to focus on its core audience and ignore others. While TFRM3 had a $200M budget, so the movie has to have broader appeal for the producers to recoup their $$$. From my POV, the superficiality is about even, but expressed in different ways, and saying "Woman are shallower than men" is like being in the first grade and saying "Girls have cooties".

Even your example of Megan Fox is skewed. Megan Fox has gone from being lusted after by every teenage male to playing herself as a real life call girl. This is because movie starlets are disposable, and there's always a new and shiny one coming up for boys to be interested in. Megan Fox's replacement by an underwear model in Transformers 3 is just one example of this. That's just as superficial as "girls love the Chan-man and his abs".

So is the talentless Channing Tatum now an A-list star? HarryWarden Mar 17, 20:49

There are shallow man who watch trash movies too ;-) {nm} karspov Mar 17, 21:09

This isn't about trash movies per se. It's about a terrible actor becoming a draw without any talent. {nm} HarryWarden Mar 17, 21:17

Fire up the presses. First time this has ever happened in Hollywood. RotoHockey Mar 17, 21:30

Doesn't mean it's right. {nm} HarryWarden Mar 17, 21:31

What I said was true. I was just voicing what no one else has the guts to say regarding Tatum's popularity. Unless you actually think he's.. SeekingJusticeInTheatresNow Mar 18, 05:04

But if we disagree, we're not "shooting the messenger," we're shooting the person who wrote the message as well. TheWeekendWarrior Mar 18, 07:01

I haven't seen a CTATU film, so I don't have an opinion. But you haven't defined your terms. And I think SSODE's decision to cast him... second gary Mar 18, 05:30

Do you think Michael Bay would be a popular director even if he didn't put lots of explosions and underwear models in his movies? And since RogerMore Mar 18, 05:52

The Vow was overwhelmingly female whereas the Transformers films are more evenly split SeekingJusticeInTheatresNow Mar 18, 06:29

All that says to me is teenage girls will see boy movies, while teenage boys won't be caught dead at a girl movie. RogerMore Mar 18, 07:08

Yes, between half-wits and quarter-wits, it was more evenly split. But, as Vince McMahon says, 'morons are profit centers, too.' {nm} DTXbro Mar 18, 11:04

And even the bad reviews usually acknowledge that Bay has technical skill as his films are very distinctive in look and style. {nm} SeekingJusticeInTheatresNow Mar 18, 06:30

Yeah, everyone went to see TFRM3 for the editing! And the sound mixing! {nm} RogerMore Mar 18, 07:09

Well, it did get nominated for Oscars;) {nm} SeekingJusticeInTheatresNow Mar 18, 07:15

And at least one can understand Bay when he talks. Tatum's nickname should be Marblemouth. {nm} SeekingJusticeInTheatresNow Mar 18, 06:41

TATUM 2012 [nm] Nwani Mar 17, 22:22

He is bound to be nominated for his performance! Amazing actor! {nm} Catzan Mar 17, 22:24

I was saying the same thing 2 hours ago. Then I walked in on a little movie called 'Abduction'... KHalloway Mar 17, 22:59
