On the "too young" question...
... I heard an episode of "Radiolab" this summer, the "Colours" episode, which included the story of an academic interested in the study of colours, who had a child. He and his wife agreed that they would teach the child colour words, but, as an experiment, they would never refer to the sky, as "blue," or as any other colour. They don't hide the word "blue"—they just reference it with respect to other things. So, when the child is somewhere between 18 and 24 mos old, one day, after a vigorous game of "what colour is that?", the father points to the sky and says, "what colour is that?" The child refuses to answer. After a couple of weeks of this pattern, the child says "white." Only later did it come around to say "blue."
Hmmm.
But Ghibli and (some) Pixar are terrific: I watched "The Incredibles" again yesterday, it is really fine. Other parents use music, so why not films?
