Saw a really advanced screening of this. A solid B- minus movie that is expertly edited that wants to so badly share it's earnest love for football but ends up stumbling on the way.
I bring up the edited since it is very unique. Instead of the constant fade to blacks like in Dallas Buyers Club(the connection I'll get to in a second) there is split screens and text overlays that almost do such a good slick job of making two old white guys talking on the phone somewhat interesting.
I bring up Dallas Buyers Club because if you thought Garner was terrible as a doctor, she is even more unbelievable as a salary cap specialist whose only real specialty is having sex with the GM(off screen).
That brings up another issue. It seems as if it has the tone of a wholehearted family film about football but it is anything but. And sometimes the films own logic gets lost. Like when Sonny's mother comes to do something on the practice field with him, he cusses her out and throws a fit, says he is busy then goes outside anyway. Lol
It's a good watch. An entertaining watch but an ultimately forgettable watch.
