The theatre has all the disadvantages of the early multiplex era. In Toronto the original Eaton Centre and Carlton Cineplex Theatres (c. 1980) were (in part) art house venues with individual theatres the size of screening rooms. Canada Square had a more mass-market feel, but it still gave screens to less popular fare (like "Whiplash"), making it a welcome midtown mixed purpose venue. But there are no signs of any upgrades since it opened c. 1985-1990: the seats are original and now seem cheap; the theatre is not raked, and so you have to sit carefully, as sightlines are poor. The sound system is inconsistent, although it was good enough during the feature. The washrooms are dirty and its fixtures are not current.

It looks like a theatre where management has spent little or nothing in a generation, and that is a private yet very Reaganesque Toronto story: spend nothing on infrastructure.
