Disney's putting Thurs previews to great use for Marvel, so shouldn't have that issue. Marketing has been perfect, so $225M is lowball.

Posted by: chosenone2oo5 on Jun 13, 16:35 in response to nilephelan's post Easily. I think it gets to $225+ million if Disney...

What's the earliest theaters can host Thursday preview screenings and have it still count towards the Friday b.o. total? I always felt like it was cheating, but I guess the industry is in agreement that we should keep doing it. So is 6:01pm acceptable, or only after 7:00pm?

Jurassic world beat avenger record? {nm} mike255 Jun 13, 14:27

Would have to beat $207, seems unlikely, but this entire weekend seemed pretty unlikely 48 hours ago. {nm} Raven9167 Jun 13, 14:36

scroll down, some estimates say yes. 207 is the number to beat {nm} andy007 Jun 13, 14:37

Going to be really close I think. I vote yes. {nm} skunkrunner Jun 13, 14:38

Box office predict 210 mike255 Jun 13, 14:38

Wow you're all parrots. Think for yourselves, and stop copying/pasting everyone else's estimated guesses and take your own guess! {nm} chosenone2oo5 Jun 13, 14:42

211.34 {nm} skunkrunner Jun 13, 14:45

Nah, closer to 211.32 {nm} Strider907 Jun 13, 14:46

312.50 {nm} Bubba_Fett Jun 13, 14:56

202.02 {nm} tradermark Jun 13, 15:07

Since you know it all - what's your guess? {nm} JDolphin Jun 13, 14:55

I just can't win with JDolphin! I made a bet w/ a buddy--my guess last week was $148-153M when ppl were saying $100-120M. chosenone2oo5 Jun 13, 16:12

You're not answering the question - you critized someone for posting a published updated estimate for the weekend instead of guessing on JDolphin Jun 13, 17:16

My peeve is that we see everyone thinking they're on top of the {nm} chosenone2oo5 Jun 13, 17:19

I think it's just people having fun with the numbers and amazed at the high estimates. I doesn't matter as stock is not high enough to sell {nm} JDolphin Jun 13, 17:27

One of our highest homo sapien evolutionary traits is our ability to make predictions--parrotting bodes poorly for further evolution. Guess. {nm} chosenone2oo5 Jun 13, 17:38

(cont.) "latest" estimates, but then you scroll just a little further down the forum, and you have ten other ppl who thought they were too. chosenone2oo5 Jun 13, 17:28

Dear HSX, have you ever considered altering the code so that the Enter button doesn't hastily post unfinished posts? Forum format is wack. chosenone2oo5 Jun 13, 17:52

You want change that's not going to happen. If you want a more strenously moderated forum, you'll need to go somewhere else {nm} JDolphin Jun 13, 20:03

Polly want a stock. *squak* {nm} DTravel Jun 13, 18:35

It will get about 6 months and a week to enjoy that record. {nm} nilephelan Jun 13, 14:47

I find your lack of faith disturbing. {nm} Bored76er Jun 13, 17:17

I think it will fall in between Avengers 1 & 2 close to 200 just my guess. {nm} kcpelot Jun 13, 14:50

Unless Star Wars can't break the record due cold winter {nm} mike255 Jun 13, 15:39

It won't be that cold, many schools will be out and lots of theater will be open 24 hours that weekend. {nm} nilephelan Jun 13, 15:44

idk - Avatar opened on the same weekend. There was a hideous snowstorm in the Northeast that kept a lot of folks away from the theatres. CSBD Jun 13, 19:55

Unless big snowstorm in USA it can effect Star Wars box office {nm} mike255 Jun 13, 15:57

Unfortunately, the biggest obstacle for Star Wars: Episode VII--The Force Awakens is a December OW has never hit a record higher than $84.6M chosenone2oo5 Jun 13, 16:22

So what? June had never had more than a $116 million opener and now it potentially has a $210+ million opening. {nm} nilephelan Jun 13, 16:24

Did you read the rest of my post, or did you just click the headline and respond without checking to see if there was more typed out? Look. {nm} chosenone2oo5 Jun 13, 16:26

Sorry, read the headline only. {nm} nilephelan Jun 13, 16:27

I may be from the 140 character Twitter generation, but I almost always utilize the Additional Message space and put it to great use. chosenone2oo5 Jun 13, 16:30

I agree with you. Star Wars has no comparison and all previous openings mean absolutely nothing in comparison. {nm} nilephelan Jun 13, 16:28

Taking a winter film and making it beat the highest summer blockbuster OW record...everyone on HSX is going to love it! It blows my mind. chosenone2oo5 Jun 13, 16:32

I do believe people generally have more disposable income in June than around Christmas. More free time as well. {nm} tradermark Jun 14, 00:25

Star Wars open 200 million in December {nm} mike255 Jun 13, 16:30

Easily. I think it gets to $225+ million if Disney doesn't do something stupid like have only Midnight openings. {nm} nilephelan Jun 13, 16:31

Disney's putting Thurs previews to great use for Marvel, so shouldn't have that issue. Marketing has been perfect, so $225M is lowball. chosenone2oo5 Jun 13, 16:35

I am guessing they will follow the Avengers 2 model and go with 7pm. Midnight in December is cruel to the northern states {nm} nilephelan Jun 13, 16:43

I also don't think they want to give away $20 million in sales for no reason and a potential record. Thursday seems like a no brainer {nm} nilephelan Jun 13, 16:44

Remember when "Star Wars: Episode III--Revenge of the Sith" had a $50M Thurs? Poor comp since it was out all day, but $20M is also lowball. chosenone2oo5 Jun 13, 17:07

I agree, and yet the stock just keeps dropping every single day. {nm} skunkrunner Jun 13, 19:07

Early yesterday you saw lots of dumping from ports with little disposable income to add or get into JURA4. tradermark Jun 14, 00:28

Blame Disney avenger 2 didn't reach 200 million due they didn't move the date due boxing match. mike255 Jun 13, 16:45

Could possibly be franchise fatigue and it simply didn't look like that fun or interesting of a movie. Audiences didn't connect as much {nm} nilephelan Jun 13, 16:50

Correct, the WOM wasn't as impressive with "Avengers: Age of Ultron" as it was with the first Avengers. Release date was picked 3 years ago. chosenone2oo5 Jun 13, 17:00

If it hits that $71 est. from BO, that puts it $3m ahead for Fri-Sat, the record is absolutely in play now. austpow Jun 13, 21:23
