I tried to stay with animated. that's a tough one to compare against. for example...
my wife has a group she hangs with called Mom's Club. they try to have events on Thursdays. a lot of times it's to go see movies like 50 Shades, Magic Mike and last year in March it was Cinderella on opening night.
so in that case there were 10+ ladies there opening night for a film targeted to young girls, teen girls and even older girls. so opening night, when school was in, $2.3M seems inflated from that crowd and teen girls.
I'd be shocked if Zootopia did over $1.3M last night, let alone $2.3M. but not shocked at all for it to open better than Cinderella on opening weekend.

I think it's really hard to draw Thursday comparisons for animateds, just because they are so small in comparison with the OW Mar 04, 07:42
