Speaking generally about the boards, I think tone is often more up to the reader's interpretation than the writer.
For example, if I think of someone as being sarcastic, I tend to read more of that person's posts in the same "voice". Same if I think the person comes across as superior, or touchy, or judgmental, or whatever.
If I find a post pushes one of my buttons, I find it helpful to take a step back and re-read the post in a different tone. Most times, it's not because the person has actually said anything "wrong", it's that I'm reading too much into the post based on past history with that person.
