I'm 62 and was talking to my wife about it last night.

I'm not a chauvanist (do they still use that word?) so let me get that out first. Anyway i told her the original was about far more than the story. The characters were everything. Imitating them may be flattery or just a gros grab at profits but its simply not the same.  The theme song was new and fresh and catchy.  Finally the second one was pretty so so and that in my thought is where you have to look for a comparison.

Lastly most of my office of about 50 people are under 40 and when something they like is coming out i hear chatter. Zero on this one. I said days ago i can't see this doing ID2 numbers and i stand by that.

Deadline: Ghostbusters 48 million with a shot at 50, Infiltrator 5-8 million (doesn't specify 3 vs 5 day) notfabio Jul 12, 11:24

"In first choice, older males are highest followed by older females." {nm} Antibody Jul 12, 11:26

Obviously not every guy thinks his childhood has been ruined by this reboot. {nm} Antibody Jul 12, 11:30

Well, once George Lucas had his way with it, how much more could Ghostbusters do to their childhoods? /s {nm} BSmurf Jul 12, 11:32

Not according to the tracking I've seen. Older males is lower than the other three demos. diamondman56 Jul 12, 11:45

while I don't doubt it, sales at my theater at this point are quite low. will be interested to see where they are lobogotti Jul 12, 11:39

Nothing ablaze here either but MNDWD looked dead too before exploding with walk-ups. I would expect GHST3 to have more presales though. {nm} RollingThunder Jul 12, 11:42

my thoughts precisely RT. {nm} lobogotti Jul 12, 11:50

But Mike and Dave only made $16Mish opening weekend TwoMisfits Jul 12, 12:27

I'm guessing its relatively speaking. {nm} ~JPV~ Jul 12, 12:59

It would be so strange if for a would-be blockbuster the audience ends up not supporting it while critics did. Jay_Beezy Jul 12, 20:17

To be fair, Top Critics are (at this point) under 50% {nm} TwoMisfits Jul 12, 20:40

That's true. Richard Roeper eviscerated it, while my local NJ critic simply said it was mediocre {nm} Jay_Beezy Jul 12, 20:51

The article says "40-48 with a shot at 50". Maybe they updated after posting it {nm} MattW Jul 12, 13:42

No, 40 was last weekend. "change-up their opening weekend projections for Ghostbusters from $40M to $48M " {nm} Antibody Jul 12, 13:59

It's going to do 50+ IMO. No competition and looks like a fun summer film. {nm} Hersheybar Jul 12, 14:28

looks like something the dog left on the curb. {nm} tradermark Jul 12, 15:09
