I followed him on Twitter yesterday evening, seems many of his peers were not so enthusiastic either. There was this Alice in Wonderland junket for critics in NYC, I believe...
Nevertheless, reviews were hardly great for Valentine's Day either, but those who shorted on that basis got burned badly. And VSDAY was not in 3D or Imax theaters. I'm thinking this may be the next event film after Avatar - and it's been advertised broadly in front of Avatar, with that trailer in 3D. Got good audience reaction where I saw it, before Xmas.
