Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 (A+), Waitress (movie A, musical B-), L'amour de loin (A+)
Three live shows in New York City, one based on an episode in Tolstoy, one based on a movie, and one on a historical figure. "The Great Comet" is fantastic, and is well worth the trip to the city alone. "L'amour de loin," directed by Robert Lepage, is also wonderful, but there is only one more performance (Thursday night if you are in New York). "Waitress" was a winning film, but the musical adaptation (though very accomplished) is troubling in a way that isn't obvious: the musical is much more about wish fulfillment than I remember the film being.
