From Malick’s screenplay, the film stars August Diehl (The Counterfeiters) as Franz Jägerstätter, Valerie Pachner (Bad Luck) as his wife Fani, Matthias Schoenaerts (Far From the Madding Crowd) as Captain Herder and Bruno Ganz (Downfall) as Judge Lueben alongside Martin Wuttke (Hanna), Maria Simon (Goodbye Lenin!), Karin Neuhäuser, and Alexander Fehling (Homeland).
