Now, I don't watch Idol. I have never watched Idol. You could not pay me to watch Idol. But I've been able to pick out most of the final five for the last few years based on a very simple system -- look at their photos! You can cut at LEAST five of the contestants because they just don't look the part.
Sure, Ruben Studdard was a big guy, but there is precedence for marketing a large black man with killer pipes. I just can't see a world where the weirdly adrogenous, slightly overweight dude wins, or the 22-year old with giant bags under her eyes, or the bro-seph. Especially when they're up against cute girls who could play into the P!nk model, a dude who could be a country version of Scott Stapp, a bettie page type, and others.
I'm not gonna tell you who to buy, and I'm not gonna even play any of these stocks. I'm just saying -- look at the pop landscape. There are at least 2 or 3 contestants who have absolutely no counterpart in modern mainstream music based soley on ethnicity. Obviously, that is not right, not fair, and not ethical. But, it is reality. Do you REALLY think a talent contest on Fox is going to break new ground in acceptable models for pop stardom?
And does anyone really think Fox doesn't fix the voting on this stuff? I mean, the parent corporation helped rig (at least one) Presidential Election and justify an invasion of a foreign nation, primarily because it was good for ratings. Do you REALLY think they're gonna be on the up and up with the voting on a talent show?
Rant over.
