Newsflash: This happened nearly 50 years ago. Certainly, it was something awful that happened. But, it was extremely important at helping illustrate the direction of the United States at the time. If the 60's were defined by the awakening of free love, calls for peace, and experimental drug use, then the Manson murders and other events that happened at the end of the decade ushered in the less optimistic 70's and a sort of end of the innocence.
