Amazon could probably lose Charles Foster Kane-level money on Prime Video and not feel it on the bottom line. they use it to drive customers over to the shopping side for all the things they do make money on

assuming that Netflix will always grow its subscriber base to pay for the content to lure in new subscribers (when it won't even have its current monopolistic market share for much longer) is like assuming real estate always appreciates in value so why not securitize subprime mortgages for the bond market?

Netflix tweets that Bird Box was watched by a record 45M+ accounts in the first 7 days warcraft86 Dec 28, 18:07

2: about 140M accounts, so almost 1 in 3. (Which seems unrealistic it would be that many) islndr Dec 28, 23:33

There is a zero chance any of this information from Netflix is right. {nm} LaForza Dec 29, 23:03

What a joke. This makes me sick. More "facts" from these film clowns, this time about how Birdbox is bigger than Aquaman. OK, sure. goodvibe61 Dec 29, 00:43

If Roma and Bird Box are Netflix future, that future is relatively dim DTXbro Dec 29, 11:59

All they have to do is get subscribers. If what they produce brings in more subscriptions, they could care less what studios do. {nm} ndmaster Dec 29, 19:18

yes and no. more accurately, they have to service $20b in outstanding and ongoing debt issuances to finance their content expansion {nm} professor zovek Dec 29, 22:21

A distinction without a difference. NFLX is a single revenue stream company. ndmaster Dec 30, 07:16

They are aware there's a finite number if subscribers they can get with this model they haven't gotten close to it yet so they spend {nm} Moviesnob Dec 30, 12:46

Yeah, there are so many assumptions in there that it's ridiculous. ndmaster Dec 30, 20:42

3 of those series are on netflix and amazon prime is a distant third behind Netflix and Hulu in terms of engagement {nm} Moviesnob Dec 29, 20:09

I’m confused. I’ve heard mixed things about Bird Box but Roma is one of the best films in years. How is your statement meant to be read? {nm} MiyazakiFan Dec 30, 05:55

The DTXBroscore for Roma was D. (Which is IMO way too low, but it's his opinion) {nm} RogerMore Dec 30, 11:35

Netflix followed up to media press, that they counted 75% or more of the film viewed by any household account as a viewing. {nm} notfabio Dec 30, 13:31

I've been thinking about it and figured it had to be something like this, especially with all the account sharing {nm} OdysseusG Dec 30, 16:54
