It's that the film revels, like a pig in slop

Posted by: swmckewon on Apr 15, 13:07 in response to Antibody's post Ebert's one-star review of KCKAS sums up exactly what I...

in Hit Girl's behavior's and treatment without so much as a slight pause for the proceedings. Not that I even always appreciate slight pauses - sometimes, they're even more offensive for pretending to make abuse "socially conscious" - but the movie is kinda ridiculous in how it so calmly folds a kid into the "army" against injustice. So, if a cause is good enough - what? - it's OK?

Beyond that, the concept of "satirizing a comic book" is just too cute, too meta for me. It leaves the filmmaker such an easy out - "well, obviously you can't see the point" - that I'm inclined to just pass on such art. So we're going to comment on the stilted, fictional commentary by using reality mixed with more stilted commentary? How far from home base do we get by that point? And by what measurement are we allowed to judge the film, if you'll just move the target to "well, I meant this..."

Ebert's one-star review of KCKAS sums up exactly what I thought of the film as well. Antibody Apr 15, 12:20

hmmmm? i see similarities in this AICN critics review....though they are completely opposite on their love for the film. lobogotti Apr 15, 12:29

ha! do a Google search on morally reprehensible and see what comes up as the 2nd and 3rd links. {nm} lobogotti Apr 15, 12:41

I'm pretty sure the AICN non-review is a response to Ebert. The guy's review was "find my initial thoughts here." {nm} Antibody Apr 15, 13:02

yeah...looks like it after i read it again. they went up the same day so they are on it. {nm} lobogotti Apr 15, 13:05

Unlike Fight Club, South Park or other films being compared to, there's no "lessons learned" at the end. {nm} Antibody Apr 15, 13:25

you don't know who Roger Ebert is? Siskel & Ebert....ever heard of them? lobogotti Apr 15, 13:14

Roger Ebert is pretty much unknown outside the US {nm} RogerMore Apr 15, 13:21

(and Canada) {nm} RogerMore Apr 15, 13:21

wow....I would just assume they were known worldwide, but i guess they were popular before the internet. {nm} lobogotti Apr 15, 13:29

I generally found him annoying and condenscending. {nm} tradermark Apr 15, 14:36

blablabla from an old man... {nm} Skauge Apr 15, 13:54

I tweeted this @ him.. he doesn't respond to normal people but I wonder if it will give him pause. MiyazakiFan Apr 15, 18:49

It's not the age... (spoiler) Antibody Apr 15, 19:32

Did you forget how Hard Candy ended? (SPOILERS) MiyazakiFan Apr 15, 19:45

Which is followed by a scene Antibody Apr 15, 19:47

Sorry, I disagree. Most would I'm sure MiyazakiFan Apr 15, 19:58
