It's a strong, original film. Still, I know it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea.
The second hour is not as great as the first, and then the final 20 minutes or so really brings it home strong. It's a real work of art. I'm thankful something like this gets made and finds a significant audience here.
Also, I want to say thank you to IMAX; putting the film on screen in IMAX was a joy. They didn't have to do that, and i think it was a really nice move for them to do this. I had to go tonight, since of course tomorrow night is the whole new ballgame, and there probably won't be a GREAT film playing on that screen for a few months now. I assume the IMAX at the Spectrum will book:
Strange
Top Gun
Jurassic Park
Lightyear? Maybe, maybe not, depends on JP
Gru?
Thor
Nope? It comes out a couple weeks after Thor, so maybe
that takes you into August, and then you have that little 2 month window of time before the fall turns on, so that's the next period of time that could be interesting, maybe they make a couple of cool choices then. I guess of those tentpoles, I could possibly see Top Gun, or Lightyear, or maybe Nope. I'll probably go see something; the idea of NOT sitting in that theater bugs.
