Saw Tar this afternoon. In addition to Blanchett, I could easily see Nina Hoss getting deep, DEEP into the supporting awards. She's perfect.
IF, and it's a big if, IF Academy members actually watch the movie, they will see an unistakeably great performance by Hoss. I mean red letter great.
The movie? it has its moments. It didn't destroy me or anything. It left me sort of cold. Blanchett, it feels to close to Blue Jasmine in tone at times. Much of the time in fact.
She's just too villanous for this to be THAT conversation about Social Media. Still, once the movie gets going (and believe me, it takes a LONG WHILE to really get going plot wise), it's gripping. Field really makes sure to drown you in that milieu before things really get going. But seeing where the story goes feels too on the nose. The ending is kinda fun though. It's a memorable shot for sure lol.
