Just look at listen at how desperate the exhibitors are. It's so unbelievably sad.
Sometimes I still have trouble dealing with/believing that this is where we are. That Hollywood won't even make enough movies to keep new films flowing in multiplexes. That they actually decide to NOT release many of them into theaters. And that TV movies are battling to win film awards.
It continues to shock me. It's one of the saddest things I've seen from pop culture in my lifetime.
Anybody that seriously believes that Netflix is trying to help out theatrical is an extremely naive simpleton that can't see the forest from the trees. And yet, here we are, exhibitors desperately clinging to the hope that the "bone" Net Trix is throwing them is some kind of sincere attempt at partnership or something.
OK.
Why the Academy didn't go the right way from the get go is just completely baffling. The Oscars are for FILMS. FILMS are shown in movie theaters. Leave it to The Academy to go ahead and sink their own boat. Instead of telling Net Trix to go away, they continue to play, and it's not gonna be that much longer before things fall apart the rest of the way.
