Full deal will be done by end of month for future works, but here's my 5 point list to fix the Film and TV "drowning in debt" problem
Early preview for HSX community. Will be some revisions off feeback, but here goes...
1. Move Streaming to more balanced release pattern. If a film wants a extended theatrical window (and talent in film demand it) grant all requests. Streaming release schedules should came after and be tailored to official box office number roll-out, NOT predetermined contracts. The standard can start with 90 day windows with option to extend off box office performance. easily.
2. Engage in Fan conventions again. We're already seeing a monster opening brewing for "Super Mario Bros," cause Universal is back to developing fan support at conventions. Either adapt or fade off, but its the only reliable audience wide enough to justify costs on these expensive tent poles.
3. No more coordinated social media campaigns that don't talk about the film or project itself. These press outings have become a complete waste of time and money by NOT talking about the films being presented, and stuck focusing on pointless issues. Personal feelings and takes on current events are not useful at these pressers (unless in reference to previous film work by the talent). Tighten the ship.
4. All streaming decisions need to be coordinated with Marketing and outside contractors. No more inside decisions by departments that don't understand sreaming and the market. Streaming heads need to focus ENTIRELY on streaming only, no upper brass interference, unless the project is at risk off unforeseen factors.
5. To handle debt, negioate seperate contacts for worldwide distrubition on a nation to nation basis. Its time for different contract terms with larger foreign nations to help make a dent on that huge streaming debt that's sinking everyone. These deals also need to be concrete.. Yes, I understand this means the show being sold now has to be relevant and wanted, but that's the easiest quick way to stop the sinking ship. Content will need to be improved regardless, just to keep streaming platforms alive..
