Most critics at Cannes are heavily into fandoms (which include international films and filmmakers).
Lets put it this way, there was never a harder ticket for press to get than TOP GUN 2. That movie was insane and the crowd control at Cannes is notoriously terrible but that was a monster onto intself. People got shut out who had tickets and they were upset.
