This will be the first actual film since Mugen Train. I would be surprised if it didn't do a similar box office.
I think this will definitely see a $20m+ opening weekend in the US. Mugen Train is probably a hard comp for its Japanese success since despite being during Covid, it set the record for box office in Japan. Without the restrictions they had in place there, I assume it would have done even better at the time. The series was at its absolute peak then though and the manga was selling copies like essentially nothing ever before so I'm not sure it will replicate it. The fact there will no longer be any episodes of the TV series should give it a push though -- they eventually covered the Mugen Train story arc as a 7-episode TV run.
