First time I saw Gene Hackman on screen was the happiest of accidents: Don't ask why because I don't know the answer. But in the early summer of 1969, for a month of Saturdays i would walk up Harbor Blvd, to the Fox Cinemaland (RIGHT across the street from The Happiest Place on Earth), and watch True Grit. And for some reason on one of those Saturday afternoons, they showed Bonnie and Clyde after. Like always, i saw two films that day. I was far FAR too young to see that picture; thanks to my brother I saw it anyway and was absolutely enthralled by it.
First time I ever purposely saw Hackman on screen: I went to the Cinedome in Orange, CA and saw The Poseidon Adventure opening weekend. That was back when the Cinedome still only had the two, large, original theaters. One of the greatest theaters of my childhood. Your heart was with Hackman in that picture.
Great times.
