Its rare for people to view the word Gang as positive

Only other such (intended to be positive) use that I can think of in any sort of action movie is Gridiron Gang.
Almost always Gang is used in relation to crime/criminals. There's a reason why we didn't have The Fantastic Gang or Avengers Gang etc.
General public use of the word has broadened ('my gang'), but not in the world of comics/literature/news etc.
No need to run away from the word "League". Reboots happen. Renaming & making it successful will be just as hard a task if not harder.
There's a reason big brands don't change longstanding names at the drop of a hat (or one misstep).
