...were switched from sympathetic characters for the last 87 years to non-sympathetic characters, which was jarring for me. Also, Ma and Pa Kent had more than meets the eye as we saw when Clark and Lois spent a bit of time in Kansas. As we know with Gunn, he peels off layers off characters with subsequent movies like he did in the Guardians trilogy.
