The guy is truly one of the greatest living filmmakers. I mean, he can do ANYTHING. Any genre. Any scenario. He's just great at compelling storytelling.
Also: I am simply gobsmacked that the companies that owned these recent movies of his (Black Bag, Presence, and now The Christophers) make the conscious choice of dumping these films into the no man's land of the spring or the winter or whenever. It makes zero sense to me.
Honestly; I don't think I expect to see much of a better performance than Sir Ian McKellen in this film this year. The guy continues to be beyond watchable. You have to know more; with each scene he's peeling back the onion, and it's pretty brilliant stuff. He has all of these long soliloquey type diatribes in this film, and after the first one, which is about what you'd expect from most, you're at that point where you're about to find out that no, this isn't gonna be like what you expected. And that's a really good thing.
And kudos to Michaela Cole for going toe to toe and forging a great story.
Honestly, this was a breath of fresh air for me. Just like Black Bag at this time last year. Made my day.
