I had a sojourn in Beverly Hills, borrowed a house there back in the fall of '93. Read the book shortly after, and watched the movie again.
There's something about both the book and the film, that really channels the careless, leisurely lifestyle of the place - a bit like some music also does (Ned Doheny springs to mind, and also Steely Dan and others).
Speaking of music, Less than Zero has it - the good stuff.
No other books give me the hedonistic LA elite vibe like BEE's hometown ones, and few movies take me to that place better than Less than Zero. And you get the added bonus of watching Robert Downey Jr play the part of a glamour kid on skid row, heavily coke addicted.. That was filmed before it got publicly known that he knew the part all too well, I believe.
