i have shifted strategies between holding fewer vs. more star bonds over the past year or so. For quite some time my strategy was to hold maximum shares on stars that were scheduled to adjust within a four month window or thereabouts. I picked 4 months because I'd noticed that if i held bonds that were scheduled to adjust further out then that, that even if the bond was looking to move in a huge direction one way, the bond still would not move in that direction quite yet, and that the trend seemed to be that the average player on the exchange didn't pick up on pending bond adjusts until around three to four months out.
Recently i had a radical change in my strategy. I'd look at bonds that hadn't adjusted in quite some time, and weren't scheduled to adjust soon, and see that I'd missed out on large movements on bonds for actors that had been off screen for awhile. So i decided to start buying in ALL star bonds, thinking that i was missing out on all kinds of hidden opportunities.
But this strategy has been hit and miss and it defintiely has some drawbacks. I find that bonds with no scheduled adjust often move in complete random patterns. Bonds that have moving steadily in one direction suddenly shift and move the opposite way for no real reason for long periods of time, which leads to lots of frustration. Also, my port has a much greater amount of red in it, and the overall management of my port takes considerably more time when holding all these bonds. It also leads to greater frustration, as bonds moving for no particular reason lead to getting you worked up!
I've been thinking of ways to manage my port more simply, so I don't have to devote nearly as much time to it. And i'm thinking that if I stick solely to bonds that are scheduled to adjust in a specific time period, i can keep port maintenance simple AND guarantee myself a solid return, due to bonds HAVING to adjust just like movies have to adjust and delist once released. I'm starting to dump bonds that have no adjust scheduled and have been moving randomly, to make things simpler.
Over the years fans have developed sites that discuss both stock and bond movement. And I see how great it would be if there was a page that rotated through the star bonds and discussed how they've been moving and what their potential is. At the same time I understand how the audience for that is incredibly small, and that it would be strictly a labor of love with very little payoff. It sure would be great to have a tool that could identify the bonds that have been moving the most over a period of time, so you didnt' have to do all that homework yourself.
What do players recommend for how they manage their bond profile? Have you tried both of these methods, what have you discovered through your experience, and how do you think you get the best gains regarding your bond management?
