Conan and Fallon were sucessful in that timeslot because they connected with that audience...
Jay Leno's timeslot has a different audience that has a different sense of humor (traditional Johnny Carson like stand up comedy). Fallon will have the same ratings dip and the same troubles that Conan had doing the same move to that timeslot.
Seth Meyers should not have very much trouble/ratings dip since his humor is similar (SNL) to Fallon (SNL cast member) and Conan (SNL head writer).
I watched Leno for years (until the Leno/Conan thingy) then I watched Conan on cable (for a while)
I just recently discovered Craig Ferguson (who I DVR and watch his opening monologue and reading emails while I eat breakfast) and he fullfills all my late night needs.
