I think that the difference this year is that the casualty rate is too high.
And the networks don't have enough "mid-season" shows or enough episodes of the ones they do have to fill the schedule until May if they start yanking as many off the air as they want to.
It will be VERY interesting to see how many new shows get greenlite for the 2016-17 season.
