The Code Black hospital is a fictional hospital based on a real LA Hopital.
The real hospital is a large hospital with a Level 1 Trauma center (24 hours full ER staff, with surgeons and specialists on site). You might have seen the real hospital... it was used for General Hospital for outside shot... as the ambulance drives by.
The real hospital handles over 25% of the trauma cases in Los Angeles. It has a burn center (1 of 3 in Los Angeles). It is also a "public" hospital that serves the "medical underserved" (people without insurance, poor people, homeless)
The thingy in the beginning is a little misleading... Code Black in the real hospital is when the waiting room is full and all emergency doctors are already busy with other paitents.
The real hospital was recently? moved to a much bigger building with everything state of the art.
The TV show films in the actual old real hospital and is based on how things were in the old building (cramped space because the hospital was built in like 1920s and innovative doctors dealing with serious trauma cases).
The real hospital is actually a well respected hospital that has pioneered many of the techniques that are currently used in emergency room medicine.
