with being part of Sinclair's garbage factory for years before this particular issue arose.

and even if they didn't have the potential financial consequences hanging over their head, any competitor they might jump ship to is going to do the same crap mix of "if it bleeds it leads" scaremongering and fluff "lifestyle" pieces.  there hasn't been actual news on local news in decades.
