Baron Darcon, I looked up FBI stats from 2017. It shows 58% of violent crime committed by Caucasians and 38% by Black or African Americans.

With an African American population at around 12% that seems high? So why is that?

I connect wealth and income to crime. The richer you are could mean the less likely you resort to violence to resolve either a lack of money or a dispute. White collar crime is not committed mostly by poor people.

According to the Wall Street Journal sourcing the Census Bureau, the median household income by head of household disparity would indicate that African American households are the poorest as they rate the lowest. Asian households top off just below 80,000, White households are just above 60k, Hispanics are around 45k and African American households come in below 40k around 38 or so.

There are many factors that create crime...money would be one, education another. If our public schools are bad, those that have no opportunity to pay for a private eduction cannot thrive, for instance.

But to your original point you seemed to assert, I disagree with your statement that the FBI reports that blacks commit a disproportionate amount of violent crime just from the stand point that caucasians committed 84,000+ more violent crimes.

Depends on if you mean disproportionate to the total crimes committed or disproportionate to the population group - Using your stats blacks jdolphin Feb 06, 19:47

Though if I wanted to get an idea of what's disproportionate, I'd look deeper than a national average.. RogerMore Feb 07, 07:35

and a multivariate analysis for related factors like, say, poverty and unemployment professor zovek Feb 07, 10:48

And education opportunities are more limited in poor communities. {nm} Catzan Feb 07, 11:00

Murder is the best crime to look at. Can't juke the stats on murder, but you can on everything else. {nm} MattW Feb 07, 21:13

Homicide rather {nm} MattW Feb 07, 21:13

*makes hand-wavy motion* Not every homicide goes reported - think about unexplained disappearances, runaways, etc RogerMore Feb 08, 09:30

also "homicide" a larger category that includes murder (intentional killings). can also include involuntary manslaughter, gross negligence {nm} professor zovek Feb 08, 13:23

Under reporting affects all categories........... MattW Feb 09, 21:25

Straight stats...you are more likely to experience violence at that hand of a Caucasian than an African American. And I put in my 2 cents Catzan Feb 07, 10:58

at least he's consistently full of poo {nm} Moviesnob Feb 07, 11:25

So I'm guessing you live in an all black neighborhood because that would be much safer {nm} jdolphin Feb 07, 15:08

Mine's 75% black!.So far so good! {nm} Moviesnob Feb 07, 15:59

You know...it depends...I lived at the edge of a ghetto in Baton Rouge, once saw a gun waved about but no violence. Lived in a white Catzan Feb 07, 17:28

...and much more likely by an American Citizen than an Illegal Alien, especially mass murrder {nm} Buy BONDS xXx Feb 08, 00:29
