You know...it depends...I lived at the edge of a ghetto in Baton Rouge, once saw a gun waved about but no violence. Lived in a white
neighborhood in Metairie, La. and not much crime. Lived in a mixed neighborhood in New Orleans, guy was gut shot in our first month there and then no more violence for like 10 or more years. Was almost mugged by two white guys walking home late. Lived on a main boulevard in New Orleans and was mugged by a large group of African American kids at 2am, neighborhood was mixed. Lived at the edge of a rich neighborhood next to crack houses and never had an issue. Lived in the hood in Baltimore, no violent crime. Lived in the hood in Memphis, no violent crime. Lived in mixed neighborhood in West Palm Beach...no issues...white neighborhood in Davie...no problems...geez, I move around way too much. New Orleans is a bad town for violence and it is a poor town. Baltimore can be rough.
In the last 18 or so years, I learned to look at crime stats before I move somewhere and I guess you would be shocked to hear that I have seen safe places to live with all sorts of people and I have lived in good neighborhoods and poor neighborhoods. In Memphis I was mre terrified of brown recluse spiders than the people. lol
Though if I wanted to get an idea of what's disproportionate, I'd look deeper than a national average.. Feb 07, 07:35
