Its also written into the Constitution that Congresspersons can challenge the electoral results for any state.

Don't misunderstand me, I am not defending Trump or the people who stormed the Capitol.  But threatening to expel members who don't resign for making such Constitutional challenges is WRONG IMO.  Trump, IN MY OPINION, did egg the crowd on into an act of insurrection but as far as I know none of the people in Congress said anything to suggest such actions to anyone.  Saying that many of their constitutients believed there was fraud is not the same thing.  Even saying that they themselves believed that is not the same thing.  Congress has traditionally allowed all kinds of wild things to be said in its chambers in order to promote debate.

Yes, this can be seen as a very fine dividing line and if anyone can give me a reliable source for Hawley or Cruz actually saying something to promote a insurrection or coup then I may change my mind.  At the moment I am not aware of them saying such.

Freedom of Speech is not to protect speech one agrees with, it is to protect speech one disagrees with.  There can be no improvement without criticism.

bull****. casting that vote was an attempt to throw out certified election results and overturn the outcome. nobody limited their speech {nm} pickle rick! Jan 10, 16:46

Throwing out a state's electoral college votes would be the point of such a CONSTITUTIONAL challenge, yes. {nm} DTravel Jan 10, 17:50

it's not "constitutional" just because you allege it without any factual or legal basis to actually overturn lawful certified results {nm} pickle rick! Jan 10, 18:39

Then why does Congress have a specific procedure for just such a thing? {nm} DTravel Jan 10, 19:19

because in 1876 three southern states rigged their vote counting to blackmail Republicans into ending Reconstruction pickle rick! Jan 10, 20:39

So why didn't the Federal government just arrest and try those responsible for the vote rigging in 1876 with sedition? DTravel Jan 10, 21:40

well the point of forcing Republicans (the federal govt really) to abandon Reconstruction was so that the ex-Confederates could reclaim pickle rick! Jan 10, 23:23
