What's your take on Saul? I mean, outside of the basic "plot", what do you think the creators are trying to accomplish with it?

What's the artistic "point" of the show?

I take it you think that binge watching the show is the preferable way to experience it. That's cool; different strokes.

I think my comparison with something like HofL works, from the perspective of the audience having a certain set of expectations, and the auteur bending the material to make something completely different than what those expectations are.

I think it's especially true in the case of BCS. I believe it will be possible to, if you have not seen any of the material before: you could:

Watch BB in order, and develop a certain idea of the character of Saul Goodman. His motivations, his life goals, his beliefs, etcetera.

You could then watch BCS, in which everything you thought you knew about Saul is determined to be wrong.

THEN you go back and watch BB again, knowing what you now know about Saul, and now a part of BB becomes completely different than what you thought the first time through. BB has significantly "changed" after watching it, then watching BCS, then watching BB again.

Beautiful. It takes what many, many authors have tried to do, make something meaningful in a prequel format, and make it truly count in some way, but almost all of those are either relatively pointless or crudely simplistic in terms of overall narrative structure, the cause and effect rippling through the overall story in a way that matters. I don't remember seeing anything like this from a prequel.

And I love, simply love, how the details are stitched together. There's just so much detail that has been lovingly put in, that echoes and reverberates through the entire saga. Beautifully crafted.

I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure that Net Trix has had zero to do with the vision of the show. Since I've never seen any "content" there that does much more than blow ass, i'm relatively sure that Net Trix isn't in the writers room. I could be wrong. But from everything I've seen, Net Trix cares about the artistry of the work about as much as Donald Trump cares about you or me. Again, I could be wrong; for all I know Peter Gould is an agent of the devil. But I don't believe that.

Anyway, I will continue to watch BCS regardless of Net Trick's power over us all! I know i WON'T be watching these shows on NetTrix. That's bad juju right there.

Better Call Saul is just incredible television. these last 2 episodes are a complete thrill ride in every way. Incredible artistry at work. goodvibe61 Jul 18, 22:24

It's got to have you tied up in knots that Netflix is the reason why this show exists {nm} Moviesnob Jul 19, 09:54

Could you expand on that please? (Am honestly ignorant of the connection.) {nm} DTravel Jul 19, 14:27

No one was watching BREAKING BAD on AMC until people found the show on Netflix and VOD {nm} Moviesnob Jul 19, 16:05

_I_ was watching it on AMC! :P If it was so obscure in first run, how did it get five seasons? {nm} DTravel Jul 19, 17:47

This was back when they were throwing big wads of money at pretty much everything? {nm} DTravel Jul 20, 13:52

They will always throw wads at money at everything. Their content budget is over $15b {nm} Moviesnob Jul 21, 13:18

Nah; that doesn't bother me at all. goodvibe61 Jul 20, 00:05

PS thanks for posting the article. One of the funniest things i've read all week; Net trix is the BEST way to watch BB. Binge it! LOL!!!! {nm} goodvibe61 Jul 20, 00:20

Dana Carvey had an interesting take on binging last night, while talking to Tarantino about his movies. It's starts at the 2:20 mark. goodvibe61 Jul 20, 00:32

I'm a distributor so i like and respect successful distributors. Im also grateful talented artists and storytellers can reach their audience Moviesnob Jul 21, 13:23

That's interesting; Net Trix has done everything in their power, to bring theatrical distribution of motion pictures DOWN. goodvibe61 Jul 21, 16:33

You boycott two of the best theaters in LA. Netflix doesnt do that. You are the defintion of the consumer that is destroying theatrical Moviesnob Jul 23, 00:23

NONSENSE. Consumers don't Destroy Theatrical, just like Consumers didn't Destroy Silent Films, the VHS, the Typewriter & the Horse & Buggy. {nm} Captain Obvious Jul 24, 17:00

Consumers also didn't Destroy the Outhouse. BTW, Boycotts happen ALL-THE-TIME to all sorts of things. The Odd One works. Most don't. Captain Obvious Jul 24, 17:05

That's just so stupid. Net Trix "boycotts" ALL theaters in Southern California, EXCEPT TWO. Net Trix HATES theaters. {nm} goodvibe61 Jul 27, 16:09
