Behind the Sun is a film by Brazilian director Walter Salles (Central Station) set in the scorching badlands of Brazil. It is a tale of two families in the midst of a family feud. When a member of one of the families is killed, his little brother, Tanho, is asked to retaliate. Tonho questions the necessity of the act, as it will only strengthen the feud. Behind the Sun is based on the book Broken April by Albanian author Ismail Kadare. The Portuguese language Behind the Sun was awarded the Youth Jury Prize at the 2001 Venice Film Festival. Miramax Films handles distribution.
