Screenwriter Marilyn Levy's debut, Bride of the Wind, is based on the life of Alma Mahler (1879-1964), wife of famous composer Gustav Mahler. The film focuses on the years that she spent in Vienna from the early 1900's up to the beginning of World War I. Alma Mahler, an accomplished composer in her own right, gave up her own aspirations for a music career to marry Gustav Mahler, 20 years her senior, in 1902. Alma, who had affairs with famous architect Walter Gropius (whom she later married) and renowned painter Oskar Kokoschka, eventually broke free to pursue her own life.
The picture will be directed by Bruce Beresford (Double JeopardyDouble Jeopardy) and will star Sarah Wynter, Jonathan Pryce, and Vincent Perez.
