Australian actress France O'Connor, whose father is a nuclear physicist and mother a pianist, is beginning to get significant feature film roles after starting her career on Australian TV. A graduate of the West Australian Academy of the Performing Arts in 1992, O'Connor was nominated for Best Actress in 1995 for the TV drama Halifax.
In the 1999 Sundance Festival feature About Adam, O'Connor plays a bookish sister of the female protagonist who also falls under the seductive spell of a stranger named Adam. O'Connor also played the headstrong Fanny Brice in 1999's adaptation of Jane Austen's Mansfield Park, a role which gained her strong critical praise.
O'Connor's first role of wide appeal came in Bedazzled where she played Allison, the love interest of Brendan Fraser's character. She also played Haley Joel Osment's "loving" mother in Spielberg's A.I..
