A biopic set in the last days of the long and fruitful life of the great Spanish post-Baroque painter who is often credited with being the progenitor of modern painting. In Carlos Saura's film, the 82-year-old Goya, in political exile in France, looks back with traces of melancholy and wonder at the rich journey that his artistic life has taken. Francisco Rabal stars as the old Goya while Jose Coronado plays Goya as a young man. Other Saura credits include Tango, Pajarico and El Dorado. The film debuted at the 1999 Montreal Film Festival.
