Coming off his vilianous turn in Lethal Weapon 4, Jet Li was nabbed for the lead role in Romeo Must Die by producer Joel Silver.
In what will no doubt be a hyperkinetic rendition of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet story, Jet Li plays a cop who's career is shortened by his brother's criminal ties. But when his brother falls at the hands of a rival gang, he sets out for revenge. Along the way, he finds an unlikely ally in the daughter of the head of the rival gang, played by singer Aaliyah, who wants to end the bloodshed between the two rival gangs and restore peace to the neighborhood.
